When working on a portrait I enter a silent world where present, past and even future cohabitate, achieving an almost meditative state. Painting children, I try to stop the passage of time for a moment, capturing them in their innocence and joy, almost floating in light, yet deeply anchored to the landscapes and places where they happened to be born, and where they unconsciously carry the ties with previous generations and those still to come.
